Accepted

So the next film on my table was Accepted, one of the latest college party films to grace the silver screen. While the trailers didn’t really lure me into the story or the characters, I have to say that I was impressed by the overall job director, Steve Pink (writer of the adaptation of High Fidelity) did in making you feel like the party-school genre isn’t dead.
With Justin Long showing he could do more than just play a Mac computer (though not much more), the entire cast was pretty well-rounded. However, there were some out of place actors, such as Travis Van Winkle (yep, it’s his real name) who played Hoyt, the bully-prep buzz-kill. The guy showed little talent in the realm of acting, which leads me to believe that the upcoming Transformers film is going to fall short of awesome (Van Winkle will play “Trent”).

“Listen guys, there are plenty of successful people who didn’t go to college. Albert Einstein. You know? Pocahontas never went to college. Corey Feldman and Corey Haim; they had a great run. Both Lewis and Clark. Suzanne Somers. Bono.”
As a whole the movie was proof that there are still some original ideas to pull out of the saturated genre. It’s one that has all too often been tainted with the Lampoon straight to DVD curse, but one that can apparently be saved.
