30 Rock = The Muppet Show

Brian Lynch makes a more than solid argument for the claim here.

Beware: Once you’ve read it you may never be able to watch the show the same way.

Tina Fey’s 30 ROCK is currently the most acclaimed comedy series on television. It’s won numerous Emmys and Golden Globes and I think Pulitzers. Critics and audiences alike love the show and its lovable zany characters, and consider it one of the most original comedies in years.

And I guess it is original…if you’ve never seen THE MUPPET SHOW. Because, my “friends” (in quotes because I don’t know or trust you, please don’t be offended), Tina Fey’s 30 ROCK is quite obviously ripping off Jim Henson’s beloved TV show.

  1. So, what you’re saying here is that by extension, you are Kermit the Frog?

  2. if that’s considered a solid argument, then i’ll eat my hat. The Kenneth comparison definitely missed the mark and the Jack Donaghy comparison was like a blind grope for some muppet that might maybe convince you if you weren’t a big Muppet show watcher. I get that they’re both shows about shows and they’re both zany, but that’s pretty much where it stops. And that bit at the end with the pictures? totally ruined the argument for me.

  3. Alright Matt, calm down buddy. You’re right, okay? I think that it’s pretty funny though – I mean Jack wears a tie and so does Fozzie bear!!! CRAZAY!

  4. “They do that in a lot of movies. An Affair to Remember, Sleepless in Seattle, and that remake of An Affair to Remember that I was in, A Blaffair to Rememblack.”
